The second showing of Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2011 has just opened at C/O Berlin.

If you're in Berlin over the next few weeks, you can see the work of the winner Jim Goldberg, alongside Thomas Demand, Roe Ethridge and Elad Lassry.

Soho Nights

El segundo proyecto Soho Archivos de Soho. Celebra la energía y la emoción de la zona de Soho en Londres después de la oscuridad. Esta exposición ha logrado reunir los dos archivos, la icónica revista británica Picture Post y el trabajo del cineasta Ken Russell con su serie en el legendario Cat's Triquitos café bar.

Picture Post, 1938 - 1957, llegó a alcanzar una tirada de dos millones de euros. Defender la causa de la gente común, creando una campaña para mejorar las condiciones sociales y expuestas los males sociales. La revista también celebra la vitalidad del pueblo británico y su vida cotidiana.


El Soho Londinense aparece con frecuencia en "Picture Post". Sus teatros, cabarets, cafés y clubes son un excitante centro de entretenimiento, el arte y la cultura juvenil. Historias como la realización de una Chica Sexy por Tim Gidal y Kurt Hutton, Emoción en la toma de decisiones por Thurston Hopkins y el cielo azul en el sótano por Slim Hewitt capturado el ritmo y la emoción de la vida nocturna de Soho.

Las fotografías de Ken Russell (Reino Unido, b.1927) capturaron el nacimiento de la 'mano Jive', en la Cat's Triquitos café bar en 1956. Este lugar atrajo a multitudes tan grandes que no había espacio para moverse y gestos de manera convencional sustituido baile.

La atmósfera de escenas inmortalizadas en estas fotografías nos muestran lo que fue SOHO en un tiempo.

Esta exposición está comisariada por Bob Pullen y Val Williams, Archivo de Fotografía y Centro de Investigación de la Universidad de las Artes de Londres.

Se caracteriza por realizar obras de gran formato, retratos de personas que viven en la costa oeste de América.

Gail y Dale son dos transexuales de mediana edad cuyos mejores amigos cuidadosamente han coordinado prendas de vestir, el cabello,… reflejando tanto su sentimiento de escapismo como su más profunda necesidad de ser visibles. Por el contrario, Nicole es casi irreconocible de una fotografía a la siguiente, ya que los cambios van de sexy rubia a muchacho adolescente.

A través de la artista se explora la difícil relación entre el puro retrato fotográfico y el desplazamiento de las identidades personales, en el punto en que la fantasía cumple con la realidad.

.Katy Grannan (EE.UU., 1969) vive y trabaja cerca de San Francisco. Sus fotografías han sido expuestas en la Bienal Whitney 2004 y 2004 el Festival de Fotografía de Arles. Ella gano 2004 Baum Premio de fotógrafos emergentes de América y actualmente su trabajo se encuentra en las grandes colecciones privadas y públicas internacionalmente.
